What makes a good greeting?

  • Keep it short. Under 30 seconds – callers want to know quickly where they stand.
  • Name first. Your business name in the first sentence confirms the caller has the right number.
  • Say what to do. Name, number, reason for calling – and when you will call back.
  • Offer an alternative. Opening hours, an email address or an emergency number help when it is urgent.
  • Keep it current. A holiday greeting in February looks careless – change it once you are back.
